Bluegrass shindigs to be at ArtsQuest
Starting next month, the nonprofit Appalachian Fiddle and Bluegrass Association's (AFBA) monthly shindigs move to the Fowler Blast Furnace Room, ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem.
Performing at the first event Sept. 9 will be Louie Setzer and the Appalachian Mountain Boys, Hillbilly Souls and Hub Hollow, and several regular supporting bands.
The AFBA shindigs, which feature scheduled performers as well as jam sessions, are noon to approximately 5 p.m. the second Sunday of each month September - April.
Starting in May 2013, the shindigs return to AFBA's Mountain View Park near Wind Gap for the summer before resuming at the ArtsQuest Center in the fall.
"The ArtsQuest Center is blessed with great acoustics, stages and food and beverage services, plus plenty of free parking near the venue," said Ted Beardsley, AFBA's board chairman.
"Great bluegrass music will be performed by local and regional bands and there will also be 'Parking Lot Picking-Jam Sessions' for musicians of all levels, with plenty of help for beginners.
"We are excited to partner with ArtsQuest on these popular events and we look forward to sharing the sounds of bluegrass with an even larger audience."
The fall schedule includes:
Oct. 14 - Last Small Town, Big Valley Bluegrass
Nov. 11 - Lost Ramblers, Willow Creek
Dec. 9 - Coal County Express, Mail Pouch Express
