The 2012 Vera Cruz Halloween Parade will start and end at Mystic Chain Park with staging beginning 6 p.m. The parade route is 1.5 miles and runs from Main Road East and West to Vera Cruz Road. The parade dates back to 1923 and promises to be bigger and better than ever with the help of the Emmaus Marching Band. Cash prizes will be awarded to individual marchers, groups and float entries. The Emmaus Historical Society will host "Bethlehem Steel: An Inside View" 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Emmaus. Ann Bartholomew and Donald Young, coauthors of the first book showing photos taken inside the plant back to the 1890s, will present the program.

Oct. 20

The annual KNBT Halloween Emmaus 5K Race will take place before the Emmaus Halloween Parade. For more information or to register, call Wes Barrett at 610-928-2000 or visit

Animals in Distress, a no-kill animal shelter in Coopersburg, will sponsor Wag Walk Walkathon at Lake Nockamixon with registration starting 10:30 a.m. at the marina. The walk will start 11:30 a.m. There will be a cost. To register, call 610-966-9383, pick up a form at Animals in Distress or come the day of the event. The walk will take place on a scenic trail and all well-behaved pets are welcome to attend.

Old Zionsville United Church of Christ, 5981 Fountain Road, Old Zionsville, will host a breakfast buffet 7 to 11 a.m. Children six and under eat for free.

Oct. 21

Lehigh Temple, 2120 Route 100 between Macungie and Trexlertown, will host a breakfast and bake sale 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call 610-398-9845.

Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, 3441 Devonshire Road, Allentown, will hold an autumn afternoon cemetery walking tour 1:30 p.m. led by church and local historian Joshua Fink. Participants will learn the history of some of the cemetery inhabitants from Revolutionary War and Civil War veterans to an individual who was murdered. The GFWC Pa. Woman's Club of Emmaus will hold their monthly meeting 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Emmaus. The program will be "Tamela Spins a Hare Raising Yarn," with Tamela Seitz. Oct. 24

Local lawmakers will hold a seminar providing the most up-to-date information about small games of chance licenses 6 to 9 p.m. at the Blue Mountain Fish and Game Association, 4190 Wood Drive, Walnutport. The event will provide further clarity on recent updates to the Local Option Small Games of Chance Act. The seminar will include a PowerPoint presentation by the Pennsylvania State Police, Bureau of Liquor Enforcement Unit. Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli, Lehigh County District Attorney James Martin and representatives from both county treasurer offices will be able to answer questions and provide information. The Lehigh Valley Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet noon in the St. Peters Lutheran Church community room, 1933 Hanover Ave., Allentown.
