COUGAR COMMENT Teachers attend conference

Wednesday, November 21, 2012 by Abby Parnell Special to The Press in Local News

Lehigh Valley Christian High School survived Hurricane Sandy relatively unscathed. Our building, on Howertown Road in Catasauqua, never lost electricity, heat or Internet service, nor was there any flooding. Some of the aluminum facing on the front top of the building got ripped off or bent back but that is the only damage we could find. We are very grateful.

As a result of Sandy, we had to make some calendar changes. The fall athletic awards night was rescheduled for Nov. 15.

In October our teachers attended the second annual ACSI Nexus Live conference. This is a new model of professional development for Christian educators. It is designed to be a continuous education process, providing training through a live event along with virtual content on demand. Speakers included ACSI President Dr. Brian Simmons, Dr. Charlotte Danielson of The Danielson Group, U.S. Senate Chaplain Dr. Barry Black, ACSI Africa Director Dr. Samson Makhado, William and Mary heritage professor Dr. James Stronge and Compassion International President Dr. Wes Stafford.

Our annual College Information Night was Nov. 8. Our guidance counselor, Mrs. Rogers, gave a presentation about the college application, admissions and financial aid process for parents of juniors and seniors.

Our boys soccer team made it to the semifinals of the PIAA District XI class A playoffs before losing to Williams Valley Area High School, the same team that defeated us in the semis last year. Congratulations to the Cougars for a great season. Basketball and cheerleading practices began Nov. 16.

School will be closed Nov. 22 through 26 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Our drama class, led by Mrs. Leisher, will be presenting "A Christmas Carol" Dec. 6 and 8, in the fellowship hall of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church on Howertown Road, Catasauqua. Feel free to join us.

Our high school choir, led by Mrs. Herbert, will present their Christmas concert Saturday, Dec. 15, also at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. They also participated in the Catasauqua Thanksgiving service Nov. 19 at Salem United Church of Christ.

Lehigh Valley Christian High School is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. One part of the celebration will take place during Homecoming Dec. 22. We will be holding our 25th Anniversary Celebration Dinner Saturday, March 16, 2013.
