The first tree, planted by D. Esther Swain and her students, has been standing tall at The Swain School since Oct. 24, 1951. This year's Founder's Day continues a tradition which first started to honor the 1945 founding of the United Nations.
The Swain School students participate in the tradition of planting a dogwood tree on their campus during their Founder's Day celebration. The symbolism of the young tree planting its roots to grow and blossom is not overlooked by staff and students.
