The Allentown Branch of the American Association of University Women is accepting applications for their interrupted studies grants. Grants are given to women both residing in, and attending school in, the greater Lehigh Valley area, who have had their college studies interrupted for at least six months and who have returned/are returning to school during the academic year beginning Summer 2013 and ending Spring 2014. Complete information and application forms are available on the AAUW website at aauwallentownpa.org. Deadline for receipt of applications Feb. 16. Last year grants were given to 26 women attending schools such as Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Kutztown University, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Northampton Community College, Moravian Theological Seminary, Muhlenberg College and St. Luke's School of Nursing.
Grants are funded by AAUW's annual used book sale held every year in October. Previous recipients are eligible to re-apply if they still meet the criteria. Interviews will be held in April and actual presentation of the grants made in May.
AAUW was founded in 1881 and is a national organization with branches in all 50 states. AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. Membership information is available on their website.
