Dr. Richard W. Miller, 77, of Schnecksville, died Friday, July 26, 2013 in his home. He was the husband of Ellen J. (Moser) Miller. The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary May 3, 2013. Born in Fogelsville, he was the son of the late Willard E. and Ruth E. (Lauchnor) Miller.

He was a graduate of Parkland High School, Class of 1954. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education in 1958 from Kutztown University, a master's degree in elementary education in 1960 and a Doctor of Education in 1972, both from Lehigh University.

His teaching career began in Smyrna, Del. From 1958 to 1972, he was an elementary school teacher and an elementary supervisor in Northwestern Lehigh School District. He was assistant superintendent of administration in East Penn School District, Emmaus, 1974 to1977, superintendent of schools in Conrad Weiser School District, Robesonia, 1977 to 1985, and superintendent of schools of Panther Valley School District, Lansford, 1985 to 1990.

He was a member of the Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, where he served on the church council and property committee.

He was a member of Carbon Lodge #242, F. & A.M., Jim Thorpe.

He is survived by his wife; five children, nine grandsons and one granddaughter; Dr. Donna L. and her husband Daniel J. Lasky and daughter, Taylor of Bethlehem; Scott A. and his wife, Lisa, and sons, Andrew and Jonathan of Sewell, N.J.; Enid S. and her husband, Kurtis A. Rank and sons, Kristopher and Brandon of Center Valley; Dr. Melinda B. and her husband Frank C. Lucas and sons, Stephen and Matthew of Quakertown; Amy L. and her husband David B. Stendell and sons, Jason, Joshua and Zachary of Slatington.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10 a.m. Aug. 3 at Union United Church of Christ, 5550 Route 873, Neffs. No calling hours. Interment will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and/or the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box # 196, Schnecksville, PA 18078-0196.
