Your look ahead at Valley Arts

Let your "Hair" down: "Hair," the landmark Broadway musical, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30, State Theatre for the Arts, Easton. The musical about a group of teenagers searching for truth, peace and love during the Vietnam War era, features chart-topping hit songs, including "Aquarius," "Good Morning, Starshine" and "Easy To Be Hard." The new production, with choreography by Karole Armitage, is directed by Diane Paulus and received a 2009 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival. That production included a Tony costume design nomination for the Lehigh Valley's Michael McDonald, a costume designer at Muhlenberg Summer Music Theatre and the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. In the post-show celebration at the State Theatre, the audience is invited to dance in the aisles and on stage with the performers to the anthem, "Let the Sun Shine In." Tickets: State Theatre Box Office, 453 Northampton St., Easton, statetheatre.org, 1-800-999-STATE, 610-252-3132

Playing dress-ups: "Carol Magnatta: Frills, Furs & Feathers" continues through March 26, Easton Hospital Gallery, State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton. The exhibition includes "White Fur" (38 in. x 48 in, oil), above. According to Magnatta's artist's statement, "After years of creating realistic, figurative paintings in oil, I decided to playfully explore pastel drawing. These works are based on those drawings, which evolved into large oil paintings. Drawing my inspirations from models who play at dress up, I began distorting their posture and transforming their features into cartoonish facades clothed in fur, feathers and lace, enacting the role of someone else. Each model portrays an innocence that is poignant, yet playful and alluring." Information: statetheatre.org/gallery
