Urban folk: The Ronald K. De Long Gallery at Penn State Lehigh Valley presents "Greg Weaver: Urban American Folk Artist," Sept. 2 - Dec. 12. The exhibition showcases work, including, above, "Chicken, Cow and Tree" (Acrylic on canvas, 4 ft. x 7 ft.) by the late Allentown artist spanning 20 years of a career cut short by his death in 1994 from complications because of diabetes. His boyhood friend, Rook Jones, saved, preserved and cataloged hundreds of works. A reception is 5 - 7 p.m. Oct. 2. An auction of the exhibited work is 6 p.m. Dec. 12. The Beat is on: The Fresh Beat Band, above, performs at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 31, Fairgrounds Grandstand, Great Allentown Fair, Allentown Fairgrounds, 17th and Liberty streets, Allentown. The Fresh Beat Band is a troupe of Nickelodeon, Jr. TV stars who had more than 9,000 pre- and early school-age tykes and their families singing and dancing in the aisles at the Great Allentown Fair in 2012. The Fresh Beats are Shout, Twist, Marina and Kiki, described as four best friends in a band who go to music school and graduate together as musicians determined to follow their dreams.
