"Hear America": The Bach Choir of Bethlehem presents The American Boychoir, above, in "I Hear America Singing," a gala concert and fundraiser, 8 p.m. Nov. 1, Central Moravian Church, Main and Church streets, Bethlehem. The pre-concert benefactor cocktail reception, dinner and auction takes place in the Hotel Bethlehem Grand Ballroom at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 1. The Boychoir fall national tour features classical and world music, including Bach, Mendelssohn, Gershwin and Lennon and McCartney. Under the leadership of Fernando Malvar-Ruiz, the Boychoir has performed with the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra and Boston Symphony Orchestra and has sung for every sitting United States president since John F. Kennedy. The American Boychoir School is the inspiration for "Boychoir," a film by Francois Girard, director of the Academy Award-winning film, "The Red Violin." Rare appearance: In recognition of the 20th anniversary of the end of apartheid, Bakithi Kumalo and the Four Peace Band, above, with Special Guest Robbi K, perform traditional and contemporary music from South Africa, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1, Godfrey Daniels, 7 E. Fourth St., Bethlehem. Kumalo is Paul Simon's iconic bass player from the "Graceland" album (notably "You Can Call Me Al" and "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes") and has toured with him ever since. Kumalo, a Grammy winner, composer and vocalist, has also worked with Gloria Estefan, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Harry Belafonte, Miriam Makeba, Grover Washington Jr., Laurie Anderson, Angelique Kidjo, Hugh Masekela, Chaka Khan, Mickey Hart, Joan Baez and Cyndi Lauper.
