The first goal for swimmers at the PIAA Championship meet is to swim well enough in their morning preliminary races to earn a spot in the afternoon and evening finals or consolation finals.

Salisbury’s Sarah Bobeck achieved that goal in one of her two individual events last week. The Salisbury junior posted the 10th-best time in the morning 500-yard freestyle heats to earn a place in the consolation final.

Bobeck, who qualified for states with a district championship time of 5:21.46, swam the prelim in 5:18.85 and then returned to swim the final in 5:14.36 for 10th place overall.

Bobeck also placed 19th in the 50-yard freestyle, but didn’t return for finals in that event.

Salisbury also sent a 400-yard freestyle relay team to states. That team, which included Bobeck, Julia Graver, Madison Jewell and Madaket Chassard, swam the state preliminary in 3:51.66 for 21st place.
