Salisbury students are all excitedly looking forward to the last day of school.
Salisbury High School students will have a 12:15 p.m. dismissal June 12 and a 10:30 a.m. dismissal June 13. As the year comes to a close, I think that it is time to reflect upon what SHS students have accomplished throughout this year.
Salisbury students have been active in many different clubs.
Students Against Destructive Decisions became Students Taking Active Roles, which allowed the members to include more topics to plan more activities.
Aevidum was founded with the intention to let every Salisbury student know that they’ve “got your back.”
The theater department held a One Act Festival during the fall, which allowed students to showcase their skills. Students created their own costumes, sets, props and some of the scenes were written by high school students.
In the spring, the theater group performed the musical, “Honk!”
The debate team had its best season in Salisbury’s history. They finished 30-2 in the regular LVIDA season, they won the play-offs 8-0 with a perfect 24-0 on the judge ballots and they won the finals 3-0.
The Key Club and Literary Club went to the elementary schools to read to the students and support the kickoff of the Cops ‘n’ Kids fundraiser. The Key Club also helped with childcare during PTA meetings, volunteered at races throughout the community, helped at the Special Olympics and so much more.
The many clubs and events present at SHS allow for almost everyone to find something to participate in. However, additional clubs are being added next year in order to encompass more of SHS students’ interests.
Students have also been actively involved in sports throughout this year. No matter the sport, students have been trying their best to win games and have fun. Although the year is coming to a close, students are already preparing for another year of sports. Many teams have had interest meetings or have begun practicing for the 2019-2020 season.
Academically, many students have spent the year studying traditional subjects including math, science, history, English and a language, but they also have created videos, designed websites, painted pictures, learned an instrument, written essays and taken exams.
As the year comes to a close, students have many completed projects they will be able to look back on as a proof of the knowledge they have learned this year.
Congratulations to the Class of 2019 for completing their high school education!
Also, congratulations to all Salisbury students for completing another year! Have a great summer, Salisbury!
