When it comes to baking, it’s all in the family

For Salisbury Township resident Krista Seibert, the inspiration that would earn her fifth place in the sticky bun category of the baking contest at the Pennsylvania Farm Show came in the ingredients.

“I liked the caramel sauce and pecan idea and the way the bun turned out,” Seibert said in a recent telephone interview.

And she did not go to Harrisburg alone.

Amelia Swoyer, Seibert’s cousin and a student at Salisbury Middle School, placed third of 66 entries in the junior baking brownies and bars category for her turtle brownies entry.

Amelia said she found a recipe she liked and “tweaked it” to create her prize-winning brownies.

The 2020 contest marked her fourth time entering the Pennsylvania Farm Show baking contest and her first time placing in the contest.

“I definitely will,” Amelia replied when asked if she will enter the contest again in 2021.

Both Seibert and Amelia credit Eva Seibert, mother and aunt, respectively, as inspiring their enjoyment of baking.

Eva Seibert also entered the PA Farm Show contest but did not place this year, according to her husband, Tom.

Tom Seibert also has a role in the baking efforts. He is the official taste tester, he said.
