The year was 1899 when The Allentown Hospital opened its doors at what is now Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH) - 17th Street in Allentown.
One-hundred-twenty years later, the Lehigh Valley Health Network has grown to provide care at eight hospital campuses throughout eastern Pennsylvania, numerous physician practices, health centers and ExpressCARE locations.
Growing up in the projects on the South Side of Chicago, Nicole Huff would help her younger siblings learn to read. Later, in high school, she was part of a peer ministry that would tutor elementary students.
Huff’s love of sharing knowledge would ultimately bring her to St. Luke’s University Health Network as Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer and, eventually, as an adjunct professor at DeSales University and Moravian College.
New students who have applied for the fall 2019 semester at Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) may attend Fast Track Admission and Registration.

Lehigh Carbon Community College is one of the recipients of a statewide Teacher in the Workplace (TIW) grant, in partnership with the Workforce Board Lehigh Valley to shine the light on local manufacturing careers by introducing teachers to local companies.
The $25,000 grant is part of $2.6 million awarded statewide by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf.

Lehigh Valley house sales increased slightly in May, continuing a positive trend for two months in a row.
Closed sales for houses in the Lehigh Valley increased 0.4 percent in May, with 815 houses sold, up from 812 houses sold in May 2018, according to the Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors (GLVR) monthly report released June 12.
Closed sales for the first five months of 2019 are up slightly, 0.3 percent, to 3,010 from 3,002 for the first five months of 2018.
Closed house sales had rebounded in April, reversing a three-month decline in the first quarter of 2019.
St. Luke’s University Health Network is to open its fifth Fitness & Sports Performance Facility in the Lehigh Valley, one designed specifically for athletes.
The 30,000-square-foot building along Union Boulevard, Allentown, is to open in September. It joins facilities in West End Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton and Phillipsburg.
The location is that of the former Pig Pen Fun Bar, in the vicinity of Coca-Cola Park.

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem has announced that its Artistic Director and Conductor Greg Funfgeld and Executive Director Bridget George will retire in the next two years.
The choir’s board of managers has launched a leadership transition plan to fill both positions, choir Board President Harold Black announced May 22.
Funfgeld will retire in June 2012 after conducting 38 seasons with the Bach Choir and his final Bethlehem Bach Festival in May 2021.
George will retire in December 2020 after 24 years with the choir.
Lehigh Valley house sales rebounded in April, reversing a three-month decline for the first quarter of 2019.
Closed sales for houses in the Lehigh Valley increased 3.8 percent in April, with 651 houses sold, up from 627 houses sold in April 2018, according to the Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors (GLVR) monthly report released May 14.
Closed sales for the first four months of 2019 are down slightly, 0.7 percent, to 2,174, down from 2,190 for the first four months of 2018.
The Allentown Fair has announced a new booking alliance with Live Nation Philadelphia to secure artists for upcoming summer Fair seasons.
The Allentown Fair concert season begins Aug. 27.
In an effort to “elevate the fan experience and secure new performers for the Allentown Fair,” the Lehigh County Agricultural Society announced the new alliance May 9 with Live Nation Philadelphia.
