Pediatric unit opens at Children’s Hospital

A new inpatient pediatric unit has opened at Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital on the fifth floor of the Jaindl Family Pavilion at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township.

The unit is part of a plan to bring services from more than 30 pediatric specialties under one roof at Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital.

“When a child needs hospital care, it’s a difficult time for families,” Physician-in-Chief of Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital J. Nathan Hagstrom, MD, said.

LCCC vice president for finance appointed

Vance E. Powers has been appointed vice president for finance and administrative services at Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC).

In his position at LCCC, he will have responsibility for human resources, the business office, maintenance and facilities, and public safety.

“Mr. Powers brings a strong background in finance and depth of experience in a range of functions that will undergird core services at the college,” LCCC president Dr. Ann D. Bieber said.

Carl Billera elected GLV Realtors president

Carl Billera, broker for Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Valley Partners, Emmaus, is the new president of the Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors (GLVR).

Billera succeeds GLVR President Sean LaSalle, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach, Macungie.

The president of GLVR holds the position for one year. He or she is elected by a nominating committee, which consists of the past president and two directors.

LVHN, Cetronia Ambulance partner on mobile stroke unit

Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) and Cetronia Ambulance Corps have announced a jointly-operated new mobile stroke unit, said to be the first in Pennsylvania.

The mobile stroke unit will allow evaluation and treatment sooner, potentially preventing damage to the brain while the patient is transported to a stroke-certified facility like Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH) - Cedar Crest’s Comprehensive Stroke Center.

Closings of house sales down slightly for 2018 in the Lehigh Valley

Closed sales of houses in the Lehigh Valley during 2018 were down slightly from the previous year, according to the Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors (GLVR).

Closings were down 0.6 percent, or 8,373 closed sales of houses in 2018, compared to 8,420 closed sales of houses in 2017.

In 2018, closed sales of houses decreased in nine of 12 month, with only January, August and October posting closed sales gains.

Pending sales were up slightly year-to-year, by 0.8 percent, or 8,544 in 2018, compared to 8,479 in 2017.

First Temple U. School grad hired by St. Luke’s Network

Marissa Cohen Zwiebel, MD, a new emergency room physician at St. Luke’s Monroe Campus, is a familiar face to many at St. Luke’s University Health Network. She was a student in the first class to graduate from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University-St. Luke’s University Health Network in May 2015.

After graduation, Dr. Zwiebel completed her three-year residency in emergency medicine at St. Luke’s. Now she and her husband, whom she met while she was in medical school, are Emergency Medicine physicians at the Monroe Campus.
