No Place for Hate "Orange-out", Teen Library Day, "Curtains: The Musical"

On Oct. 25, SHS No Place For Hate members hosted an "Orange-out" at the football game against Notre Dame in celebration of Anti-Bullying Month in October. NPFH, which meets during Falcon Period on Day 3, is a group devoted to anti-bullying and anti-prejudice school wide and beyond.

On behalf of NPFH, thank you to Monica Deeb, Zachary Young and others who generously devoted their time to planning for this special showcase.

The third annual 100 Yards of Hope event took place prior to the Salisbury High School Homecoming game Oct. 11, a "Pink-Out" event.

People were asked to support breast cancer survivors and honor lost loved ones by purchasing pink ribbons at the Salisbury Football Booster Club apparel sale table. Additionally, the opportunity to honor a loved one in the game program was extended. All proceeds from ribbon sales were donated to the American Cancer Society.

On Sept. 24, the Salisbury High School Guidance Department held an orientation in regard to the dual enrollment agreement with Seton Hall University. Topics ranged from courses, costs and registration procedures.

On Sept. 28, Salisbury High School will host the 2013 County Chorus Festival 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Selected students from choruses across the county will come together and sing musical selections chosen by the directors.

Calling all Salisbury High School parents! SHS's open house will be held 6:45 to 9 p.m. Sept. 12. Attend to learn more about your child's classes, teachers and how they work within the block. Parents will receive a schedule and will follow blocks 1 through 4, operating on a Day 1 schedule.

The Salisbury Girls Soccer team will host its Flapjack Fundraiser Breakfast 8 to 10 a.m. Sept. 14 at Applebee's Cedar Crest location. For information, contact Paula Ackerman at 610-797-9282.

Salisbury's 49th commencement ceremony to be held June 6

On May 23, 2013, members of the Salisbury High School fall production, "Little Shop of Horrors" went to the 11th annual Freddy Awards. The night began with a performance by a select number of students from the participating schools. SHS performers included Connor Harrison, Taylor Heverly, Alan Mendez, Julisa Trinidad and Melissa Zong. Participating schools ranged from Central Catholic High School to Wilson Area High School. Categories ranged from outstanding choreography to outstanding overall production of a musical. A fun time was had by all.

The Salisbury High School spring concert was held May 14. Performances included the a cappella group "Descant Get Enough," the block and club choruses, the Jazz Band and the Concert Band.

Many attendees enjoyed "Aquatica," a band piece commissioned by Dr. Scott Watson of Parkland High School given to the Salisbury Concert Band, in honor of the late Salisbury Superintendent Robert R. Gross III.

The night concluded with the premiere of "Valedictory," a piece arranged and directed by senior Alan Mendez celebrating graduating and moving on with life.

Softball team to hold fundraising breakfast April 27 in the cafeteria

On April 18, the class of 2013 held the "Mr. Salisbury" pageant. Participants included Sean Adams, Tyler Brown, Garrett Collins, Tyler Cooperman, Anthony Dee, Mason Kresley, Alan Mendez and Thomas Walters.

The night began with a group dance to "Set It Off" by Timomatic. A wide range of captivating talents were displayed by all. Beachwear, formal wear and question-and-answer segments followed. Cooperman was crowned "Mr. Salisbury."

Deadline for ACT, SAT and AP exams fast approaching

The deadline for the ACT test being administered Saturday, April 13 is March 8.

The AP exam sign-up and payment will begin Feb. 25 and will end March 8.

The Spring I Session in preparation for the May 4 SAT test begins March 9 and ends May 3. If you are interested in registering for the SAT online, visit www.collegeboard. org. Registration for the May 4 SAT test ends April 5. The late registration deadline is April 19.
