The holiday season has begun, as Thanksgiving welcomed in the spirit of giving thanks, appreciating time with family and friends and creating valuable memories. The brisk cold air of winter has come to the Lehigh Valley, causing us all to wonder how much snow this season will bring. Make sure to enjoy apple cider, hot chocolate, and the warmth of the love that is in your life as the month of December is always a busy time.

Q. What grade are you in?

A. 12th grade.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. Media management; I enjoy working on movies and the daily news show, plus my production team is awesome.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I'm a member of National Honor Society, received the Dwight D. Eisenhower Outstanding Leader of Character Award and am a National Merit Commended Student.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A. I'm involved in band, chorus, the theater program, debate and scholastic scrimmage.

A. I am in grade 12 at Salisbury High School.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is AP World History. I have always enjoyed studying history and Mr. Barna makes the subject very interesting.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I am a member of National Honor Society and I received the Widener High School Leadership Award.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A. I am in marching band, concert band, jazz band, debate, Model UN and the theater program.

Haggis offers varied flavors

Celtic rockers Enter The Haggis are once again bringing their tour to Bethlehem, performing 7:30 p.m. Nov. 24, Musikfest Cafe, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks.

Enter The Haggis has played in the Lehigh Valley numerous times, including shows at Musikfest and Celtic Classic.

The band of Trevor Lewington, Brian Buchanan, Craig Downie, Mark Abraham and Bruce McCarthy incorporates different instruments from the octave mandolin, to bagpipes, banjos and fiddles.

'America's never been about what can be done for us; it's about what can be done by us together'

President Barack Obama was reelected for another four years of his presidential term this past election day. The country has determined its own destiny and people got out to vote. This election showed record numbers of voters, flooding to the polls to cast their ballot. Voting is important; we have the chance to cast our vote because we the people elect our leaders.

A. My favorite subject is English. I love the discussions we have in AP English. It makes me enjoy reading again.

A. Recently, I was selected as a 2012-2013 National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar.

World War II veterans answer students' questions

History came alive for American Cultures II classes at Salisbury High School as a panel of veterans from World War II spoke to students about their experiences with the war.

Sharing their first accounts of World War II were veterans Bert Winzer, 1st Special Service Force; Don Burdick, 16th Field Artillery Battalion, attached to the 101st Airborne; Lionel Adda, 99th Infantry Division; Mark Kistler, 4th Cavalry Division; Morris Metz, 94th Infantry Division; and Frank Maresca, 75th Infantry Division.
