A sketch plan for seven homes to be built on an approximate 16-acre tract at Lindberg Avenue and Oxford Drive in western Salisbury Township has been presented to the Salisbury Township Planning Commission.
Jeff Russell, president of Russell Holdings, and his father Greg Russell, presented a sketch plan for a subdivision at 2602 Lindberg Ave.
The site at the southwest quadrant of Lindberg and Oxford is in the township's Low Density Residential (R-2) Zoning District.
"The Family" is a generically-titled film that is anything but generic.
The mob comedy-drama stars the iconic Robert De Niro, in one of his best roles in years, and the magnificent Michelle Pfeiffer, also in one of her best performances.
"The Family" is smart entertainment on the order of "Goodfellas" (1990). In fact, there's a nod in the storyline to "Goodfellas," directed by Martin Scorsese, who produced "The Family."
There's also a sense of "Married to the Mob" (1988) "Analyze This" (1999), and "Meet the Fockers" (2004).
Call it "Meet the Mobsters."
"In A World ... "
You may have heard that phrase, intoned by Don LaFontaine at the beginning of movie previews, or trailers, as they are known.
LaFontaine, who died in 2008, was dubbed "the voice of God" for his recordings of more than 5,000 film trailers, and thousands of television commercials, network promotions and video game trailers.
LaFontaine parodied his own career in TV commercials for Geico Insurance and the "Mega Millions" lottery game.
Compliance with the United States Environmental Protection Agency court order to mitigate stormwater infiltration in Salisbury Township is going well, according to the township consulting engineer guiding the project.
Salisbury is included in the federal court order issued in 2009 because the township, along with other Lehigh County municipalities, utilizes the services of the Lehigh County Authority.
"It's the end of the world as we know it," to quote the 1987 R.E.M. rock song, and I was feeling fine until near the end of the movie "The World's End."
Then, as in so many movies nowadays, it seems all apocalypse breaks lose, and "World's End" ends in fire.
"Ice would suffice," to quote the 1920 Robert Frost "Fire and Ice" poem.
Instead, director Edgar Wright ("Shaun of the Dead," 2004; "Hot Fuzz," 2007; "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," 2010), loses his cool.
Does the Salisbury Township Municipal Building need bulletproof windows?
That was one of the ideas presented during a discussion of public safety at the township municipal building.
"We are taking measures to secure our building," Salisbury Township Manager Randy Soriano said. "We did that before the incident."
Soriano was referring to the Aug. 5 tragedy in Ross Township, Monroe County, when a disgruntled resident allegedly opened fire on public officials and those at a meeting in the municipal building, with three persons succumbing and three others injured.
A proposal to convert a building into a theater rehearsal space at the Arts Academy Charter School along East Emmaus Avenue has been rejected by the Salisbury Township Zoning Hearing Board.
Zoners voted 4-1 to turn down the appeal by the charter school and its landlord, West Bethlehem Ventures, LLC, which owns the building at 1610 E. Emmaus Avenue. The building was originally Washington Elementary School and, after that, a KidsPeace facility.
"Blue Jasmine" is the 49th film directed and 71st film written by Woody Allen, including some shorts, in the 47 years since his first movie in 1966. He's already filming his next movie, an untitled feature scheduled for release in 2014.
Allen, noted for his hilarious social satires, has also made dramas, often including funny moments. "Blue Jasmine" is one such film.
The Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners expects to review a draft of a proposed fire inspection program at its next meeting, 7 p.m. Sept. 12, in the Municipal Building meeting room.
"You must start with the enabling legislation," Salisbury Township Manager Randy Soriano said during the workshop after the Aug. 22 township meeting.
Soriano said the fire code inspection and property maintenance inspection should be kept separate.
A job description must be written for a part-time fire code inspector. A fee schedule for inspections must be determined.
A referendum on the Nov. 5 municipal election ballot may bring a 20-year tradition to a close in Salisbury Township.
The Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 to authorize Township Manager Randy Soriano to contact the Lehigh County Board of Elections to place a referendum on the ballot asking township residents to vote on continuation of the Allentown Public Library tax.
"We will forward that to the county and let the voters decide Nov. 5," Soriano said.
