According to the Lehigh County District Attorney's office, two Allentown men have been charged with homicide in a Feb. 3 fatal shooting at an apartment on West Emmaus Avenue in Allentown.
Jefran Canales-Tapia, 28, of Allentown, and Luis Armando Santiago-Nieves, 25, of Allentown, are charged with homicide, conspiracy to commit homicide and robbery in the death of a 33-year-old male.
Marie E. Xiques, of Lower Macungie Township, died February 5, 2013, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. She was the wife of Miguel "Mike" Xiques Jr. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary May 16. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Frederick Miller and Lillian (Staples) Miller Solomon.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Allentown.
She was a volunteer for Lehigh Valley Hospital.
She enjoyed cross stitch sewing and travel.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is accepting applications for May through August employment for students and government service interns. Applicants must have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license, must be 18 years old and must be enrolled in in college for the fall 2013 semester. Submissions must be received by the close of the business day Feb. 22.
Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, South Whitehall Township, will be having its fifth annual chili cook-off 5-8 p.m. March 16.
The community is invited to taste 40 chilies from professional, amateur and firehouse chefs and vote for their favorites.
Free-will donations will support the ministries of the Lehigh County Conference of Churches.

Josephine K. Hinkle, 94, formerly of Emmaus, a life-long educator and librarian, died February 5, 2013, at Arbor View, an extension of Willow Valley retirement community, Lancaster. She was the wife of the late James O. Hinkle. Born in Reading she was proud of her Pennsylvania German heritage.
She was the first member of her family to go to college, earning bachelor's and master's degrees in library science, both from Kutztown University. She served as librarian originally at Emmaus High School, and finally at Emmaus Junior High School.
Western Salisbury Elementary School will hold registration 9:30 a.m. Feb. 27 for students enrolling in kindergarten for the 2013-2014 school year. Registration will be held in the gymnasium at Western Salisbury Elementary, 3201 Devonshire Road, Allentown. The registration process will take approximately 1 1/2 hours and children are not required to attend.
Eligible candidates must be five years of age on or before Aug. 31.
Bring a copy of the child's immunizations, two proofs of residency and an original birth certificate.
