of Macungie

Carl David Dries, 70, of Macungie, died February 27, 2013, at home with his family. He was the husband of Lois G. (Wetzel) Dries, to whom he was married for 48 years. Born in Breinigsville, he was the son of Grace (Geist) Dries, of Emmaus, and the late Junior Dries.

Before retiring in 2013, he worked at Allen Organ Co., Macungie for 50 years in various departments and lastly as an assistant foreman.

For close to 15 years, he worked craft shows under the name Iron Mountain Toys, showing his creations of wooden cars, toys and banks.

Group to meet on March 7

Allentown AARP Chapter 5415 will host Sara Ullmer from the Crime Victims Council, who will speak on "Elder Abuse" noon March 7 at St. Timothy's Church, 140 S. Ott St., Allentown.

The business meeting will follow.

Bring a nonperishable food item for the Allentown Food Bank.

Elizabethtown College

Christina Gilley, of Macungie, was named to the dean's list at Elizabethtown College. Gilley is a sophomore majoring in health and occupation.

Jordan Laliberte, of Macungie, was named to the dean's list at Elizabethtown College. Laliberte is a senior majoring in social studies education.

Brianna Maurer, of Macungie, was named to the dean's list at Elizabethtown College. Maurer is a junior majoring in political science.

Summer program registration open

Via's Teen Summer Experience program, which runs June 17 to Aug. 23, is now open for registration. Attendees will have opportunities to participate in a range of activities including job shadowing, career counseling, volunteer activities in a variety of settings and a series of recreational and team-building activities.

The staff works individually with each teen and their family to develop educational, recreational and vocational goals.The goals focus on individual interests of the teen and preparing them to transition to adult life.

of Alburtis

Doris M. Grim, 78, of Alburtis, died March 1, 2013, in her home. She was the wife of the late Donald E. Grim Sr., who died in 2005. Born in Allentown, she was the remaining survivor of five children of the late Charles B. and Pauline C. (George) Oswald.

She worked at Emmaus Shirt Company and later became a "Seamstress for Everyone" and homemaker in her Alburtis residence.

She was a member of Longswamp United Church of Christ and its auxiliary.

She was a social member of Alburtis Fire Company.
