Althea Miller Randall, 94, formerly of Emmaus, died October 29, 2012, in Lehigh Commons, Macungie. She was the wife of the late Pierce Randall, who died in 2005. They celebrated 64 years of marriage on Jan. 25, 2005. Born in Macungie, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Annie (Race) Miller.
She graduated from Emmaus High School in 1936 and attended her 50th high school reunion in 1986.
Earl P. Geist, 92, of Macungie, died November 3, 2012, in Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Anna M. (Schmoyer) Geist. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in April. Born in East Texas, he was a son of the late Paul Geist and Edna Siegfried.
He was a meat smoker for 14 years at the former A&B Meat Packing Company and Wilson Meat Packing Company in Allentown, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Huff's Union Church, Alburtis, serving on church and was past treasurer of the park board for 32 years.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
With the success of the recent Mars Rover Curiosity landing, Cedar Crest College is bringing a NASA to the Lehigh Valley to provide insight into space exploration.
Jennifer Stern, Ph.D., a scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's Planetary Environments Laboratory, will present a lecture, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15, Alumnae Hall. The program is free and open to the public.
"Cloud Atlas" is the year's most astounding film.
"Cloud Atlas" is an epic in concept, screenplay, casting, directing, cinematography, editing, sound and production design. "Cloud Atlas" is akin to the Hollywood epics of Cecil B. DeMille.
"Cloud Atlas" recalls what big studios films do best and yet it's an indie film at heart, albeit one with a $100-million budget. "Cloud Atlas" shows us new ways of looking at the world, and new ways of thinking about the universe.
The Associated Mess improv comedy troupe will hold auditions, 6 p.m. Nov. 12, 13, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem.
Callbacks will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 18 at ArtsQuest Center.
Auditions are scheduled in 30-min. blocks. Auditions will be held with 4 - 6 actors at a time, some of whom will be troupe members. Improv games and scenarios will be played.
Actors do not need to prepare anything. Those interested in auditioning should bring a printed resume and headshot if available.
Performances by The Victor Wooten Band, Jimmy Herring Band and Conspirator highlight two nights of nonstop jamming as SteelJam returns Nov. 9 and 10 to Musikfest Cafe, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem.
Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21 is offering driver education theory classes and behind- the-wheel training for qualified high school students in the following school districts: Allentown, Catasauqua, Northern Lehigh, Northwestern Lehigh, Palmerton, Parkland, Salisbury Township and Whitehall-Coplay.
The goal of the student driver eeducation program is to teach young people to be safe and responsible drivers.
