I come bearing good news, actually Great News!
Western Salisbury Elementary School students are back home! The mold issues have been taken care of and we moved back into our building Sept. 24. Needless to say, we are a little excited! Just a quick reminder that picture day is scheduled Oct. 9.
I just want to one more time say thank you so much to the staff and administration of Salisbury Middle School and Harry S Truman Elementary School. They were so wonderful to the staff and students of WSE. They helped make a trying situation much easier.
Due to the air quality issues at Western Salisbury Elementary School, picture day will now be held Oct. 9.
The open house for grades kindergarten through grade two has been postponed until further notice. More information will follow when students are back home at WSE.
Editor’s Note: This article has been updated since the Aug. 29 issue in print. Western Salisbury Elementary School will continue to be closed Aug. 29, 30 and Sept. 4 for additional air quality remediation. The school is expected to open for kindergarten orientation 8:30 to 1 p.m. Sept. 5; grades one through five will have a two hour delay with a 3:15 p.m. dismissal. Transportation for kindergarten is expected to run as originally planned for the orientation day; lunch will be served, breakfast will not; the day care schedule is expected to run as usual at WSE.
The Salisbury boys and girls soccer teams have a lot going on.
First, the teams will host a car wash fundraiser noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 18, with a rain date of Aug. 19. This will be held at Big Woody’s, 1841 S. 4th St., Allentown. Come out and support our school soccer teams.
Western Salisbury Elementary School will hold its New Family Welcome 9:30 to 11 a.m. Aug. 16. If you have a student who will be new to WSE this coming school year, whether they are in kindergarten or any other grade, come out and get a tour of the school, meet some of the staff and learn some of the ins and outs of the building.
Bus cards for Salisbury Township School District will not be sent through the mail for the 2018-2019 school year. They will be available on the community portal, so please make sure to check the portal before the beginning of the school year.
Summer library hours for students in grades kindergarten through eighth are 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. On July 25 and Aug. 1, the library at Harry S Truman Elementary School will be open.
How many of you have been to Food Truck Thursdays at the South Mall? I have and it’s yummy!
A variety of food trucks converge on the South Mall parking lot 4 to 8 p.m. every Thursday through September. It isn’t the same trucks every week, but according to the South Mall website, there could be Grumpy’s Bar-B-Que, Take a Taco, Cone Appetit, Cactus Blue Mexican Restaurant, Bananarama Food Truck and more. Don’t feel like cooking on a hot summer night? Go to the mall!
Do you have a Salisbury High School student who loves to read and loves pizza?
SHS is holding Pages and Pizza 5 to 7 p.m. June 27 in the high school library. Any student entering grades nine to 12 this fall can come in and check out some books for summer reading while enjoying a slice of pizza. Books will be due back to school in September. Registration is recommended by contacting the high school librarian at email@example.com.
It’s here – the last day of school! No more lunches to pack, no more dragging kids out of bed at 6 a.m. and flagging down the bus driver as my son puts on his shoes. No more asking “Do you have homework?” “Is your homework finished?” Oh wait, this is about the kids, right?
June 11 is an early dismissal. Salisbury High School and Salisbury Middle School will dismiss 12:15 p.m. and Harry S Truman and Western Salisbury elementary schools will dismiss 1 p.m.
The end of the school year is fast approaching, and with it comes….graduation!
Congratulations Salisbury class of 2018! Commencement ceremonies will be held 6 p.m. June 5 at Allentown Symphony Hall. Admission is by ticket only.
Western Salisbury Elementary School PTA will hold a restaurant night at the 1760 House May 24.
All township schools are closed May 25 and 28 for a teacher professional development day and in observance of Memorial Day.
