Theater Review: 'Deathtrap' delightful at Bucks Playhouse

Tuesday, June 24, 2014 by PAUL WILLISTEIN in Focus

"Deathtrap" is a crackling good production, through July 13, Bucks County Playhouse (BCP), 70 S. Main St., New Hope.

The mystery comedy is a whodunit from beginning to end, except all the usual suspects are right there on stage.

If you haven't seen the Tony-nominated play by the masterful Ira Levin ("Rosemary's Baby," "The Stepford Wives," "The Boys From Brazil"), which debuted on Broadway in 1978 and was made into a 1982 movie, the BCP production is a good place to start. Even...

Behind The Scenes: Joe Vincent a Tevye for all time at PSF

Friday, June 27, 2014 by PAUL WILLISTEIN in Focus

Joe Vincent embodies the rough-hewn wisdom, profound spirituality and indomitable spirit of Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof," which opened the 23rd annual Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival (PSF) where the musical continues through June 29, Main Stage Theatre, Labuda Center for the Performing Arts, DeSales University, Center Valley.

Vincent, a veteran of 33 of Shakespeare's 37 plays, couldn't be better cast as the dairyman of Anatevka in the 50th anniversary production of "Fiddler on the...

Theater Review: 'Two Gents' a romp-com at PSF

Monday, June 23, 2014 by PAUL WILLISTEIN in Focus

William Shakespeare's "Two Gentlemen Of Verona" brings fizzy summer fun to the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, through July 13, Schubert Theatre, Labuda Center for the Performing Arts, DeSales University, Center Valley.

The production is paced by fine lead performances, but, as often happens with Shakespeare's romantic comedies, while the play may be the thing, the clowns have it. "Two Gents" is a romp-com.

Notes and missives, the tweets and emails of their day, have a role...
