Road closure

Lincoln Avenue between S. Cedar Crest Boulevard and Lindberg Avenue will be closed for roadway construction through mid-November. The road closed Oct. 8.

According to the Salisbury Police Department, the contractor will attempt to maintain westbound traffic during the project.

Eastbound traffic will be detoured along Americus Avenue to Lindberg Avenue. Traffic will be open to the Bible Fellowship Church during the project.

The project will cause congestion during high volume traffic times.

Halloween safety tips provided

Chief Allen Stiles has announced he is working with the Salisbury School District to ensure this year's trick or treat event scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26 is a fun and safe one.

Stiles said key intersections will be manned by the police department to facilitate crossing of ghosts and other creatures. He asked residents to observe some of the common sense rules for this event, including:

Make sure your child's clothing is flame retardant. Review the stop-drop-roll exercise in case a costume catches on fire.

Public meetings scheduled

Renew Lehigh Valley will hold a series of public meetings to engage the residents of the Lehigh Valley in a regional planning project called Envision Lehigh Valley. The public meetings will garner residents' views and input on the overall quality of life in their neighborhood and the greater Lehigh Valley and engage the residents of the Lehigh Valley in an integral planning process for the future of the community.

New superintendent appointed at special meeting Oct. 3

Salisbury Township School Board President Russell Giordano said he was "thrilled" to introduce Michael Roth as the district's new superintendent at a special meeting Oct. 3.

Roth, who is currently an assistant superintendent in the Nazareth Area School District, will take over for Interim Superintendent Louise Beauchemin Nov. 1.

Two-alarm fire destroys vacant home; arson cited

A fire which called out Eastern and Western Salisbury fire departments 2 a.m. Oct. 4, destroyed a vacant home at 1456 Lehigh Ave. Police said they are investigating the fire as an arson case.

Sergeant Donald Sabo, the township's fire marshal, was at the scene and a specially trained Allentown K-9 dog was brought in to sniff out traces of an unknown accelerant police said. Samples were taken and sent to the Pa. State Police Crime Lab.
