American Cancer Society Cancer awards to be given Oct. 4

Several local supporters of the Cancer Support Community will be honored 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at the event center at Blue, 4431 Easton Ave., Bethlehem.

The awards, winners and projects include Philanthropy: Heather Rodale, Healing Through The Arts Women's 5K Classic; Distinguished Service: Heman Patel, East Penn Business Machines Inc. and Rob Vaughn, 69 News WFMZ-TV; and Distinguished Community Partner Award: Highmark Blue Shield-Sue Manela, Northampton Community College.

Historic Bethlehem Partnership Civil War show Sept. 7 to 9

The Civil War Roadshow will be in Bethlehem 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 7, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 8 and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 9. The event will take place at the Fowler Center, 511 E. Third St., Bethlehem.

The traveling exhibition is housed in an expandable 53-foot tractor-trailer. There will be re-enactors, a speaker series, children's crafts and games, commemorative merchandise and Civil War era music.

Children's Ball set for Sept. 22

Community Services for Children's 2012 Children's Ball will be held 6 to 11 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Lehigh Country Club, 2319 S. Cedar Crest Blvd., Allentown.

Proceeds will support the "Building a SafeStart for Babies" campaign. The SafeStart program's treatment facility, Donley Family Center for Infants, provides daily therapy for babies who have been abused and neglected. It is the only such treatment program in Pennsylvania.

Civil War Meeting set for Sept. 4

The Civil War Round Table of Eastern Pennsylvania Inc., will be hosting guest speaker Mike Litterst.

He will discuss "He Came as a Peacemaker: Abraham Lincoln in the Confederate Capital" at the Days Inn and Suites of Allentown (formerly Four Points by Sheraton), 3400 Airport Road, Allentown.

Dinner will be served 6:30 p.m. with the program beginning 7:30 p.m.

Reservations for the dinner must be made by Aug. 30.

No reservations are required for the program.

There is a fee for both the dinner and program.

Colonial Ball

Celebration set for Sept. 22

A Colonial Ball will be held 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Holiday Inn, 904 Hamilton St., Allentown. The event, which is open to the public, celebrates the 250th anniversary of Zion's "Liberty Bell Church" and the 50th anniversary of the Liberty Bell Museum.

Professional colonial re-enactors will talk with guests about what life was like in the colonial era. There will be live period music, colonial artifacts, and dancers who will demonstrate and teach colonial dances popular in the 1770s, the time of Allentown's founding. There will be a colonial style meal.

Bus trip slated for Dec. 8

Salisbury Township is running a bus trip to Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Spectacular in New York City Dec. 8. The Rockettes are celebrating 85 years.

The ticket includes orchestra seating and transportation to and from New York. Lunch and shopping on your own.

The cost (non-refundable) is payable by cash, check or money order and payment is due at the time of registration.

Registration deadline is Sept. 26 at the Salisbury Township Municipal Building.
