Seminar set for April 12

An "Entrepreneurial Communities; Increasing Regional Prosperity through Entrepreneurism" seminar will be held April 12 at the Fowler Center, South Bethlehem.

The speaker for the all day event is Dr. Michael Fortunato, research associate and lecturer at Penn State University. Four local individuals will discuss how they get input about needs from entrepreneurs and what challenges they encounter.

Group to meet on March 7

Allentown AARP Chapter 5415 will host Sara Ullmer from the Crime Victims Council, who will speak on "Elder Abuse" noon March 7 at St. Timothy's Church, 140 S. Ott St., Allentown.

The business meeting will follow.

Bring a nonperishable food item for the Allentown Food Bank.

Chase winter with a dance

The German-American Union will have its annual festival to chase away winter with eating, drinking, dancing and singing at the Germansville Fire Company social hall 3 to 7 p.m. April 7.

The Austreibungs Fest was previously known as the Winter Vanquish Festival.

The hot meal includes Karl Ehmer wursts. Musical entertainment is provided by the Walt Groller Band.

There will be numerous door prizes.

Simmons' child protection bill advances

Legislation sponsored by State Rep. Justin Simmons, R-131st, to help inform parents about registered sex offenders in communities was unanimously approved by the House Education Committee.

"My bill would provide parents with more information in the fight against child predators," Simmons said. "That information will help them determine the safest walking route for their children to school or to the school bus stop."

Best family doctor sought

The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians needs the public's help to track down the PAFP's 2013 Family Physician of the Year – the best doctor in the commonwealth. Maybe she lets her patients call or text her any time with questions and concerns; perhaps he still makes house calls after decades of practice or takes care of multiple generations of a family. That's the kind of physician who would make a perfect candidate for the 2013 Family Physician of the Year.

'Unsung Heroes' names sought

Lehigh County Aging and Adult Services is accepting nominations for Unsung Heroes.

To celebrate older American's month, the Lehigh County Office of Aging and Adult Services will recognize Lehigh County residents, 60 years of age or older, who have displayed exceptional generosity with their time and talent to enhance the lives of others and their community.

The Unsung Hero finalists will be honored at a special awards ceremony 1 p.m. May 15 at the Lehigh County Government Center, 17 S. 7th St., Allentown.
