The Center for Animal Health & Welfare is holding a Pins for Pets fundraiser until the end of the month. All donations sent in by Feb. 28 will be doubled on air during the morning with Bobby Gunther Walsh of Newsradio WAEB 790 through March 7.

Scholarship deadline March 1


High school seniors can now apply for a Pennsylvania House of Representatives scholarship to help with the costs of higher education.

The application deadline is March 1.

Each year, two students are awarded four-year scholarships equivalent to the value of one semester of tuition at a college or university in the State System of Higher Education, according to a media release from the office of Rep. Justin Simmons, R-131st.

Volunteers of the Year honored by Wildlands Conservancy

Wildlands Conservancy, the premier nonprofit land trust of the Lehigh Valley and Lehigh River watershed, announced its honorees for the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Awards, which include local Coplay resident, Scott Richards.

The Volunteer of the Year award is Wildlands’ annual acknowledgment of individuals, groups, organizations or businesses that deserve to be recognized for their share of time and talent to support the nonprofit land trust’s land protection, environmental stewardship and education efforts.

WalkWorks program awards LV Planning Commission grant

The WalkWorks program, a collaboration between the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, has selected Lehigh Valley Planning Commission in Lehigh County and 10 other communities to receive grants that will assist with the development of active transportation plans and policies.

Essay contest deadline Feb. 15

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America is inviting college-bound high school seniors across the country to enter its 2019 Teens for Alzheimer’s Awareness Scholarship Essay Contest for the chance to earn money for college.

The annual program has awarded more than $250,000 in college scholarships since its inception.

The deadline to submit essays is Feb. 15.
