Couple celebrates 60 years

Edward and Catherine Mrowka of Northampton recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

The couple was married in Shamokin June 14, 1952.

Volunteer firefighters take fire safety message to St. Thomas More School

Several Salisbury volunteer firefighters took time off from work or other activities to take their annual fire safety message to preschool and elementary students in local schools.

Salisbury Township School Board President Russell Giordano said he was "thrilled" to introduce Michael Roth as the district's new superintendent at a special meeting Oct. 3.

Two-alarm fire destroys vacant home; arson cited

A fire which called out Eastern and Western Salisbury fire departments 2 a.m. Oct. 4, destroyed a vacant home at 1456 Lehigh Ave. Police said they are investigating the fire as an arson case.

Sergeant Donald Sabo, the township's fire marshal, was at the scene and a specially trained Allentown K-9 dog was brought in to sniff out traces of an unknown accelerant police said. Samples were taken and sent to the Pa. State Police Crime Lab.
