Bikers gather together to make Christmas joyous for children

The sound of engines filled the beautiful sunny afternoon as some 500 motorcycles loaded with toys set out to deliver these packages to some very excited children.

The 29th annual toy run led by A.B.A.T.E. (Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education) started in the Dorney Park parking lot Nov. 17. The "Klondike Derby" will be held early next year in Franko Farm Park, Salisbury Township.

The Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners voted 4-0, with one commissioner absent Nov. 15, to approve the request for the Jan. 19, 2013, event held by the Trexler District, Minsi Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America.

The approval is contingent on the Scouts' representatives providing the township with a waiver of liability and proof of insurance.

The Salisbury Township Recreation Advisory Committee met Nov. 19 for their regularly scheduled meeting and discussed damage to the parks courtesy of Hurricane Sandy.

Most parks in Salisbury Township escaped Hurricane Sandy damage with the exception of Lindberg Park where a large tree was uprooted and fell on playground equipment.

Township personnel have been notified of the damage.

Two fallen trees were also noted at Louise Park.

Hanukkah and Christmas are times of the year when family and friends come together to share memories, laugh, sing, decorate and exchange presents.

For people living with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, the holidays can be a difficult and stressful time.

I have found with my mother, who was diagnosed several years ago with dementia, this is the time of year when she becomes more depressed.

Couple plans 2013 wedding

Dino and Patty Sinatore of Whitehall are happy to announcement the engagement of their daughter, Lia, to Zach Pizarro, son of Michael and Carolyn Pizarro of Easton.

The couple met while attending Wilkes University, from which they both graduated.

The bride-elect is a registered nurse with Lehigh Valley Health Network - Muhlenberg Campus.

Simmons wins election in 131st

Kevin T. Deely Jr. called State Representative Justin Simmons, R-131st, to concede the race for the district seat in the Pennsylvania House Nov. 19.

According to the numbers provided by the voter registration offices of Northampton and Lehigh counties, the race was officially decided by a total of 416 votes.

In Lehigh County, the separation was only by one vote with 12,972 for Simmons and 12,971 for Deely.

Simmons received 1,293 votes in Northampton County while Deely...
