Lady Falcons fall to Palisades

Wednesday, May 1, 2013 by SHANE BAGLINI Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Salisbury softball team fell to Palisades Friday, losing 11-1 in 5 innings. The Falcons struggled to get the offense going early, and errors late sealed their fate.

"It was a tough loss," said Salisbury head coach Brian Covely. "We have four games left to play and hopefully we play better these next four games and end on a good note to go into next season."

The Falcons fell behind 3-0 after one inning, but fought back, scoring a run in the top half of the third on a triple...

Injuries can't keep Reichenbach down

Wednesday, April 24, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Injuries are a part of sports. Nearly every athlete at some point in his career has to deal with a nagging pain. The great athletes are the ones who can cope with them and still perform at a high level.

That is just how senior Dan Reichenbach's track and field career at Salisbury has been highlighted. The long jump and triple jump athlete has dealt with injuries, and is seemingly never 100 percent healthy, which also may be due to the fact that the track season usually begins just as...

Falcons remain undefeated

Wednesday, April 24, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

If there is a formula to beat the Salisbury baseball team, no one has figured it out yet. Quite frankly, no one has come close.

In what has been the team's staple all season long, the Falcon pitching staff once again proved its superiority amongst the rest of the league during Wednesday's 8-0 victory over Northwestern Lehigh.

Tyler Cooperman, who improved to 4-0 on the season, pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout for the Falcons (12-0 overall; 9-0 in Colonial League). Last...

Late-inning HR dooms Lady Falcons

Wednesday, April 24, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

One late-inning swing drastically changed the landscape of last Wednesday's Catasaugua vs. Salisbury softball game.

After falling behind 6-1 in the top of the third inning, the Falcons erased that deficit with two runs in the bottom half and three more in the fifth, tying it at six runs apiece.

But after a scoreless fifth, one swing of the bat put the Rough Riders back on top for good. Catasauqua's Jordon Dardas blasted a two-out, three-run home run in the sixth inning to give...

Individual success highlights track opener

Wednesday, April 10, 2013 by The Press in HS Sports

The Salisbury track and field season began last Tuesday with the Falcon girls splitting with Northwestern and Pen Argyl and the boys' team getting swept.

The Tigers were the dominant team, using strong runners to start the year 2-0 in both boys and girls.

Salisbury did have some impressive performances. Kyle Gonoude took first in both the 800 and 1600, winning a duel with Northwestern senior Tyler Stelmack in the latter event. Gonoude will be among the top runners in both races...

Softball can't finish off comeback

Wednesday, April 10, 2013 by SHANE BAGLINI Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Salisbury softball team showed a lot of fight in its 11-7 loss Saturday to William Allen.

Salisbury jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the top half of the first inning. Sophomore pitcher Melissa Kugler doubled home center fielder Jenna Keet, who led off the game with a sharp single up the middle.

The Falcons allowed six runs in the bottom half of the first, all of them unearned. Salisbury was hampered all afternoon by errors, committing nine total.
