Baseball team caps one-loss season

Thursday, May 16, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

A little over a week ago, the Salisbury baseball team experienced something for the first time this season.

Last Monday's 3-2 setback to Wilson marked the Falcons' first loss of the season. And because of it, one of the main questions was how would Salisbury respond after that first mark in the loss column.

That question was answered shortly after that defeat.

Three days later, the Falcons responded with a 15-0 route over Moravian Academy in three innings. The next day,...

Ampietro fans 10 in win over ND

Wednesday, May 8, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

Heading into last week's game against Notre Dame-Green Pond, the closest any opponent came to defeating the Falcons were those very Crusaders.

Back on April 4, the Falcons defeat Notre Dame by a score of 6-1. For a Salisbury team that has won by seven or more runs 12 times this season, the Crusaders were one of just two opponents who have kept it this close. Catasauqua lost to the Falcons by five runs as well just a few weeks ago.

Over a month later, during the Falcons' senior...

Each of the three Salisbury doubles teams experienced firsts in their careers last Thursday during the opening two rounds of the District 11 AA doubles tournament at the West End Racquetball Club.

Most notably, Austin Albright and Zak Young qualified for districts for the first time. The two weren't just happy settling for a spot in the field, they wanted to win. And in the first round, Albright and Young took down Jim Thorpe's Dave Castro and Avery Maguil on the final set 6-4, 5-7,...

Where there's smoke, there's fire, and the news of a Lehigh Valley super-conference finally came to fruition last week.

After months of rumors and speculation about the future of the Lehigh Valley Conference, the Mountain Valley Conference stepped in and sent out an invitation to 12 neighboring schools to ultimately form a "big school super-conference," according to Stroudsburg Principal and MVC President Jeff Sodl.

All of the current LVC members, except for Bethlehem Catholic...

Wednesday, May 1, 2013 by SHANE BAGLINI Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Salisbury softball team fell to Palisades Friday, losing 11-1 in 5 innings. The Falcons struggled to get the offense going early, and errors late sealed their fate.

"It was a tough loss," said Salisbury head coach Brian Covely. "We have four games left to play and hopefully we play better these next four games and end on a good note to go into next season."

The Falcons fell behind 3-0 after one inning, but fought back, scoring a run in the top half of the third on a triple...
