Guttman continues family legacy

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Two years ago, standing on the podium at districts receiving their medals, were two sisters. Senior Gabby Guttman and sophomore Danielle Guttman, both placed in the 500 freestyle and were able to help out Salisbury and share a special moment.

"Swimming with my sister was great," the younger Guttman said. "Her senior year was my sophomore year, and we both swam the same events, so at districts we were able to get onto the podium together, and that was really cool."

The two were...

Dee wins tourney title, closes in on 100

Wednesday, February 13, 2013 by The Press in HS Sports

Anthony Dee's quest to 100 wins got a lot easier as the Falcon's 126-pound wrestler earned five wins at the Falcon Wrestling Tournament on Saturday to boost his career total to 96.

Dee was named the meet's outstanding wrestler and won his weight class with four pins and a 6-4 overtime decision over Southern Huntingdon's Dison Myers in the final.

The senior wasn't the only Salisbury wrestler to post a winning record as Zach Adams won three of his five matches at 106-pounds to...

Hrebik reaches career scoring milestone

Wednesday, February 13, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

In the midst of the third quarter of last week's game against Wilson, Salisbury senior guard Megan Hrebik connected on a one-handed jumper in the lane during what was the Falcons' Senior Night.

It was a shot that Hrebik has mastered over her years as a Falcon. This shot, however, was more significant than any other field goal she recorded in her career.

With that field goal, Hrebik became the school's most recent 1,000-point scorer, and is the 14th Falcon to ever accomplish the...

Hockey falls to Parkland, 5-1

Wednesday, February 13, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Heart has been the one word that head coach Rich Crowley reiterates about his combined Salisbury/Whitehall hockey team.

Crowley's group never quits and always plays to the final whistle, even with the challenge of facing some of the top teams in the Lehigh Valley Scholastic Hockey League.

Monday night Salisbury/Whitehall stayed with the number one team in the league Parkland for a majority of the game, and came away with a late goal for their efforts in a 5-1 loss at Lehigh...

Girls fall in season finale

Wednesday, February 13, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Throughout Joe Mladosich's first season as head coach of the Salisbury girls, he's preached two things - taking care of the ball and making shots.

Neither happened too well last Thursday night as Southern Lehigh used 19 points from junior guard Madeline McDonald to break away in the second half and win the season finale of the Colonial League 64-37.

The Spartans (19-3, 14-2 Colonial League) earn a trip to play in the Colonial League tournament, and the Falcons will use the...

Reichenbach leads boys back to playoffs

Wednesday, February 13, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

Last Thursday's game against Southern Lehigh was the Salisbury boys basketball team's Senior Night. Behind the home side bleachers at Salisbury High School, one banner read, "Dan Reichenbach will take us to the TOP."

While the Falcons may not be at the top of the Colonial League at the moment, Reichenbach certainly had a big part in helping Salisbury outlast the Spartans and earn a spot in the conference playoffs which began on Tuesday night.

Behind a team-high 11 points from...

Dee hopes to finish his Falcon career as part of elite 100-win club

Wednesday, February 6, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

Take a look up at the banners lining the Salisbury High School gymnasium and you'll see a short list of wrestlers belonging to the school's 100-win club.

It's been quite some time since the Falcons have added another name to that list, as Matt Roncolato was the last Falcon to have reached the milestone back in 2000.

But now, 13 years later, one current Falcon has a chance at being included on that list.

That wrestler is senior Anthony Dee.

As of Sunday, Dee has...

Cold shooting night does in Lady Falcons

Wednesday, February 6, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Take away two quarters, and the Salisbury girls may be right there with the Colonial League elite.

But scoring a combined 12 points on 5-for-25 shooting in the first and third quarters was too much for the Falcons to overcome against a hot-shooting Notre Dame Green Pond on the road Thursday night.

The 46-34 defeat eliminates the Falcons from the Colonial League playoffs, but the team can still look forward to district play.

"They did some things offensively that we were...

Boys hold off late charge from NDGP

Wednesday, February 6, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

Heading into last Friday's game against Notre Dame of Green Pond, the Salisbury boys basketball team was aware of the previous meeting - a 50-41 Crusader victory in mid-December when they pulled away late in the fourth quarter.

But this time around, with a lot more at stake, the ending was a little different.

Like they did the first time around, the Falcons once again carried a lead into halftime. And despite a late rally from the Crusaders, combined with a bucket in the final...

Boys swimmers assert dominance over SL

Wednesday, February 6, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

Prior to every meet's last event - the 400 freestyle relay - the Salisbury boys swimming team comes together for a traditional final huddle and chant, essentially reminding each other of finishing strong.

Thursday's meet against Southern Lehigh was no different as the squad got together right before their 400 freestyle relay. And with the meet already in hand, the Falcons' "Hillshire Farm" chant was still loud and clear.

Their 119-61 win over the Spartans at KidsPeace Broadway...
