Boys swimmers continue streak against Panthers

Wednesday, January 9, 2013 by The Press in HS Sports

The Salisbury boys scored an impressive win over Saucon Valley last week, winning all but one event en route to a 131-49 victory to remain perfect on the season. Despite a strong day in the water from Danielle Guttman, the girls fell 109-57 against the Panthers.

Jon Anderson was instrumental in the boys victory, capturing both of his individual swims and leading off for a pair of victorious relay teams. The boys also showed their depth as seven different athletes won events at the...

Falcon girls continue losing streak

Wednesday, January 9, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Salisbury girls basketball team is in the midst of its worst stretch of the season.

Saturday's defeat to Bangor, 46-34, at Salisbury High School dropped the Falcons to 2-4 in the Colonial League and a game under .500 overall through nine games. After starting the season 3-0, the Falcons have dropped three in a row, and their past four contests against conference foes.

Head coach Joe Mladosich believes that a win in conference play will propel his Falcons on a winning streak...

Boys take down Southern Lehigh

Wednesday, January 9, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

Salisbury boys basketball head coach Jason Weaver understood that his team's upcoming games in league play would be a good gauge on where his Falcons stood roughly midway through the season.

And in their first game of 2013, the Falcons showed that, despite their current .500 record in the Colonial League, they are ready to compete with anyone.

A little less than a week after hanging with a Parkland team for virtually the entire game, the Falcons (5-5, 3-3 Colonial League)...

Fleetwood takes down girls in final

Monday, January 7, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

A second quarter filled with turnovers and three pointers helped Fleetwood win the Salisbury Holiday Tournament Friday afternoon 47-41 over the host Falcons.

The Tigers were successful on 5-of-6 three point shots, and forced Salisbury to turn the ball over, pressuring in the half court. Fleetwood took a 10-point lead into half, and never looked back.

"The first half I think we had 12 turnovers, and the second half we only had three," said head coach Joe Mladosich. "I just don't...

Boys impressive in loss to Parkland

Monday, January 7, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

Considering the way Friday night's championship game between Salisbury and Parkland in the Parkland Holiday Classic started, many would have expected the Falcons to pack it in early.

But don't tell that to head coach Jason Weaver.

Despite falling behind 13 points after the first quarter and trailing 22-6 in the opening moments of the second, the Falcons erased that deficit and led 43-39 - their largest lead of the game - heading into the final quarter.

And while the...

Swimmers sweep rival Central Catholic

Monday, January 7, 2013 by The Press in HS Sports

Two weeks after falling in the final event, the Salisbury girls pulled off a dominant win in the 400 free relay to take down Central Catholic by a point at KidsPeace last week.

The Lady Falcons entered the last race trailing by three points, but the foursome of Danielle Guttman, Alyssa Sipos, Kaliegh Bobeck and Meredith Heydt delivered a victory in the relay by over a minute as the girls slipped past the Vikettes 83-82.

Guttman was instrumental in the victory, earning maximum...

Turnovers plague girls in Wilson loss

Thursday, December 27, 2012 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

There wasn't much for Salisbury girls basketball head coach Joe Mladosich to say after his team's 48-43 loss to Wilson on Saturday night.

Rattled and disrupted by Wilson's pressure for much of the second half, the Falcons were forced into a slew of turnovers that erased a nine-point third quarter lead to a five-point deficit early in the fourth.

The Falcons tied the game on a number of occasions in the fourth - most lately at 41-41 off a Meagan Eripret layup and free throw -...

Three Falcons get wins

Thursday, December 27, 2012 by The Press in HS Sports

The six Salisbury wrestlers competed well against Northern Lehigh in a Colnial League matchup last Wednesday.

While the Falcons had no shot at a team win due to the number of forfeits, Salisbury took half of the six bouts it competed in.

Heavyweight Peter Samy was the first Salisbury wrestler to earn points and he won a hard-fought decision over Thomas Nesfeder, 6-3.

At 126 pound, Salisbury's top grappler Anthony Dee had another good outing, pinning Ryan Rubio in just 1:...

Warriros pull away from Falcons in fourth quarter

Thursday, December 27, 2012 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

Following their first conference loss of the season to Notre Dame-Green Pond just two days earlier, the Salisbury boys basketball team looked to get back on track against one of the tougher Colonial League foes in Wilson.

And for over three quarters of play on Thursday night at Salisbury High School, neither team could significantly separate itself from the other.

Wilson, however, scored 10 of the fourth quarter's first 14 points, increasing its lead to double digits with just...

Girls swimmers get first win of year

Thursday, December 27, 2012 by The Press in HS Sports

The Salisbury girls picked up their first win of the season, downing Quakertown 83-40 as part of a 1-1 week in the water. The boys team remained perfect by dropping both Stroudsburg and Quakertown.

The girls win on Friday came thanks to big days from Danielle Guttman, Alyssa Sipos and Kaleigh Bobeck, who each won two individual events.

Guttman, the girls' top freestyler, won both the 100 and 200 frees. She also led off the victorious 200 and 400 free relays. Sipos joined her on...
