Following the final whistle of last Thursday's field hockey game between Salisbury and Wilson, the Falcons felt as if that was a game they should've had.
It was the Falcons who not only dominated time of possession, but held a lopsided 14-2 advantage in shots on goal. And facing a Warrior team that they defeated twice a year ago and that had no substitutions for their most recent matchup against the Falcons, it looked like a recipe for a Salisbury win.
But that's certainly not...
Something had to give.
Salisbury and Palmerton entered their Colonial League battle winless on Friday night so someone was going to take a step forward, while the other would take a step backward.
After a scoreless first half, it was the Falcons who stepped it up a notch and hit the win column with a 13-7 victory at Blue Bomber Stadium.
It was the first win for the Falcons since October 14 of last year when they defeated Palisades 30-7.
And Salisbury head coach...
For the past few seasons, one of the Salisbury field hockey team's biggest obstacles has been scoring goals in the offensive end.
In the team's season opener against Palisades last Wednesday at Salisbury High School, the Falcons once again struggled to find the back of the cage in the 4-0 defeat.
It wasn't a one-sided contest in terms of possession and shots on goal, though. The Falcons (0-2) controlled the ball in the Pirates' territory consistently and had their chances on...
Junior midfielder/forward Kori Hadinger is having one marvelous start to season for the Salisbury girls soccer team.
Two more goals for Hadinger in the Falcons' 6-0 shutout victory over Catasauqua gives her a total of five after three league games.
Hadinger will tell you herself she feels more comfortable operating in the center. But head coach Rick Babyak is beyond pleased at the results he sees from his offensive weapon wherever she is stationed.
"I'm more comfortable...
Goals were a plenty, coming from all distances and speeds last Thursday night as Ben Heydt and his teammates fired on all cylinders and shut down Catasauqua 9-1 in Colonial League action at Salisbury.
Heydt scored the first and third goals for the Falcons. His first, just under six minutes in, was ripped off a missed clearance from a corner kick. His second goal, a no-doubter, nearly put a hole in the net when it flew past Catasauqua goalie Gunnar Pattison's out-stretching arms....
After Michael Abraham's 17-yard run on Salisbury's first play from scrimmage, the Falcons offense seemed ready for a break out game Friday night at Northwestern.
But the offense stalled from there, going the rest of the first half without a first down and falling behind 13-0 by the end of the second quarter en route to a 23-0 loss to the Tigers.
"Their defense was that good tonight," said first-year Salisbury head coach Andy Cerco. "They played very, very hard.
Heading into week three of the Colonial League football season, both Salisbury and Palmerton have a number of similarities when comparing the two squads on paper.
Most importantly, when the Blue Bombers host the Falcons on Friday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff, both teams will be looking to capture their first victory of the young season.
The Falcons fell to Northwestern Lehigh last week 23-0 after suffering a 20-7 defeat to Bangor in week one. Meanwhile, the Blue Bombers came up a...
The scoreboard showed a 20-7 victory on Friday night for Bangor against Salisbury in the Colonial League football opener.
But that final won't necessarily tell the entire story surrounding the Falcons in their first game under head coach Andy Cerco.
The mood around the stadium wasn't one of disappointment. Rather the fans were optimistic for the future. It was something to build on. And the Falcons seemed to possess a different attitude than a year ago and the team was very...
It was only one game, but already the Salisbury football team looks as if it is making significant strides from a season ago.
After hanging with Bangor up until the game's final minutes last week, the Falcons (0-1) will shift their focus to Northwestern (0-1) for this week's contest.
"We're going to continue to work hard, and expect our players to play hard from start to finish," said Cerco. "And that's what we're going to see Friday night."
The Falcons will travel to...
Sure the Salisbury girls soccer team would've like to open their season with a win for first-year head coach Rick Babyak.
But a 4-3 defeat to East Pennsboro didn't cloud what Babyak saw from his squad in the Third Annual Jahna Haldeman Foland Memorial Soccer Tournament, held last Friday and Saturday at Salisbury High School.
"Honestly, yes you want to get that win," said Babyak. "But I am very proud of the way my girls played today. That was an exciting team to watch. There's a...
