Q. How important is exercise when you are a senior? Is it worth the risks of hurting yourself?

Scientific evidence shows that seniors should exercise, even though many older persons think it could harm them. Study after study demonstrates that seniors hurt their health a lot more by being sedentary.

If you're inactive, you deteriorate. Physical activity can help restore your capacity. Most older adults, regardless of age or condition, will benefit from increasing physical activity to a moderate level.

April 17, 18 date for student poems

Poems for the 8th annual Student Poetry Project are to be published in the April 17 and 18 Focus section in the eight Lehigh Valley Press newspaper print editions and, this year for the first time, online: lehighvalleypress.org.

Publication date for the 2013 Student Poetry Project is one week earlier than the previously announced April 24 and 25 Focus section dates.

French films

Civic Theatre of Allentown is collaborating with The Film Society of Lincoln Center, Unifrance Films and Emerging Pictures in presenting the 18th edition of "Rendez-Vous with French Cinema," showcasing contemporary French film, through April 11, Civic Theatre514 and 514 N 19th St., Allentown.

The selections include new works from auteur Damien Odoul and master filmmakers Patrice Leconte and the late Claude Miller, as well as films featuring French stars like Audrey Tatou, Roman Duris and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

Story Fusion

The Story Fusion Festival, produced by the Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild and Northampton Community College, is April 16 - 21, NCC main campus, Green Pond, Bethlehem Township.

NCC students' "Stories of the Stars: Myths and Legends" begins the festival, 7 p.m. April 16.

For teachers, there is an Act 48 accredited workshop, "Using Story to Connect Cultures in the Classroom."

Antonio Sacre, a writer, storyteller and solo performance artist, is featured storyteller.

Submit photos for 'Heroes'

Embassy Bank is inviting the submission of photographs of family members, neighbors and friends who have served or are serving in the armed forces for the third-annual Memorial Day weekend, May 26 - 28, "Our Hometown Heroes" display, SteelStacks, Bethehem.

The Memorial Day Celebration presented by Embassy Bank includes three days of music, family activities and programming.

Tribeca Film Fest

Following up on a successful excursion to the Philadelphia International Film Festival in October 2012, Civic Theatre of Allentown is host for a one-day excursion April 21 to the 21st Annual Tribeca International Film Festival, New York City.

At the festival, participants will see two highly-anticipated U.S. releases, "Whitewash," starting Thomas Hayden Church, and "Hide Your Smiling Faces."

"Everyone is invited to join us on this trip," said Michael Traupman, Managing Director of Civic Theatre of Allentown.
