Moravian College to host LV Classical Guitar Festival

The Moravian College Department of Music hosts the Lehigh Valley Classical Guitar Festival, June 22, Peter Hall, Hurd Campus, Moravian College, Bethlehem.

This year's guest artists are Julian Gray, Serap Bastepe-Gray, Pat Sise, Mark Edwards, Glenn Caluda and David Pace.

The festival, directed by Moravian College alumnus James Schultheis '10, is a full-day of recitals, workshops, master classes and concerts. The event is co-sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Classical Guitar Society.

Queen sought

The deadline for the 2013 Allentown Fair Queen contest has been extended to June 21.

The fair queen makes appearances and represents the fair during the event's Aug. 27 - Sept. 2 run, at the State Fair Queen Contest in January and in the community throughout the year.

The Lehigh County Agricultural Society, the nonprofit organization that has been operating the fair for 161 years, is looking for contestants from Lehigh, Northampton and Berks counties who possess an ability to communicate enthusiasm for the Allentown Fair, local farming and the agricultural industry.

Pastor Marge Dean, associate pastor of The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Emmaus, is greeted during worship June 2 by the Rev. Glenn L. Simmons, associate to the Bishop, with a letter of thanks for her service to the church from Bishop Zeiser of the Northeastern PA Synod. Pastor Marge was greeted by members at a reception following worship to thank her for her ministry as she begins retirement.

When a compulsive doctor tries to manage a free-spirited housekeeper, things get all mixed up and more than a little messy in Pennsylvania Playhouse's production of Sarah Ruhl's "The Clean House," directed by Tom Brown, through June 23.

Kelly-Anne Rohrbach shines as the Brazilian housekeeper Matilde, who is better at poetry (all in untranslated Portuguese) and empathy, two skills that don't necessarily mean she is a good housekeeper.

Art in the Park

The 39th annual Art-in-the-Park is 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. June 15 in West Park, 16th and Turner Streets, Allentown.

Art-in-the-Park features original works of art by more than 80 local and regional artists.

Prize money is awarded in each category: watercolor, graphics, oils and acrylics, photography, and 3D (pottery, wood, jewelry, glass, fabric, sculpture).

Free spaces are given student artists grades nine - 12.
